What kind of container are the supplies stored
in?
The container is an outdoor Rubbermaid
storage shed made from durable resin construction
that is virtually maintenance free. There are
two front doors as well as a hinged lid for easy
access. The shed can be locked and we supply a
weather-resistant padlock. Photos of the shed
are provided on our home
page.
How large is the container and where should
I put it?
The shed is 4'7" long x 2'4" wide x
3' tall. Before calling to schedule a delivery
you should pick a suitable location for the shed.
Be sure to have 25" of space above the shed
for lid clearance when the shed is opened. The
location should be relatively level, have good
drainage, and not be near anything that could
fall on the shed during an earthquake (e.g. brick
chimney).
Is the container earthquake proof?
No. That is why we recommend setting up the shed
outside in an area away from potential falling
objects. Although we examined many sheds before
selecting this model, keep in mind it is a durable
resin storage shed and not a concrete bunker!
Where should I store the key to my EQ Box?
We recommend hiding the key in a secure area outside
your house, away from potential falling objects.
Why can't I just purchase all of the supplies
myself?
You can. However, the service we provide saves
you days of research, driving, and shopping; as
well as installation time. The contents are obtained
from more than a dozen different sources. Most
people understand the importance of adequate earthquake
preparation and yet relatively few people have
the time to get the job done. It doesn't do any
good to start preparing after a major earthquake
or other disaster! With one phone call to us you
can finally cross this important task off of your
to-do list.
How often do I have to replace food and water
in my EQ Box?
Food and water should be replaced once a year.
How will I remember when it is time to replace
food and water in my EQ Box?
For a minimum of five (5) years we will e-mail
you an annual reminder to replace the food and
water in your EQ Box. If you prefer, we will send
the reminders via the United States Postal Service.
How do I know what food to purchase when it
is time to replace the original food?
The annual e-mail (or USPS mail) reminder we send
you will include a list of recommended food items.
Naturally, you can modify the list to meet the
dietary habits and needs of your family. Reminders
are sent each October, regardless of when you
purchased your EQ Box.
What should I do with the food and water that
I remove from my EQ Box?
We have selected food that has a shelf life of
12 months or longer. Therefore, you can eat the
food or donate it to charity. Toss out the "old"
water.
Will I have to add anything to my EQ Box?
The informational packet that is delivered with
your EQ Box contains a list of recommended items
you may wish to add to your EQ Box. These items
include clothing and sturdy shoes, prescription
glasses, baby supplies, cash (to supplement the
pay telephone coins we include in the EQ Box),
food and leash or carrier for pets, house and
car keys, essential medications and copies of
important papers.
Is the EQ Box available throughout California?
At the moment, the EQ Box is only available in
the greater San Francisco Bay Area (sections of
Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San
Mateo, and Santa Clara counties). We are looking
for regional managers to handle distribution in
other parts of the state.
How do I purchase an EQ Box?

made payable to Epicenter Services.
